As we are in a time where things are unique as well as uncertain, our team put together some three tips on how to lead a team during this time:
Tip #1:Seek advice from other leaders and colleagues in your industry likely going through the same thing you are. Try not to isolate yourself further by doing everything on your own, remember we are all in this together.
Tip #2:Seek advice from others that are not in your industry, this will give you insight to how others are addressing this unique situation. This will also give you the opportunity to possibly mirror, adjust and adapt to what others are doing. Remember we've never been in a situation like this before, so this is new to all of us.
Tip #3:Be honest but not transparent. Honesty is important because it shares with your team an expectation of open communication and lets them feel like you are accessible. But do not confuse this with being very transparent. Transparency can lead your team to fears if you're sharing with them information that is not yet been verified or confirmed. Don't create more chaos during chaotic times. It's a fine line Between honesty and transparency. But honesty is always the best policy and remember it is okay to say, “I'm not prepared to give you an answer right now, details are still being confirmed.”
